Few things are more disappointing than to have a gift card that you're unable to use because the gift card code is unreadable. Fortunately, Amazon has processes in place for customers gifted an Amazon gift card with an unreadable or damaged code.

What Do I Do If My Amazon Claim Code Is Unreadable?

If you have an Amazon gift card and not able to read your gift card, Amazon has remedies to redeem your card.

The first is to contact Amazon.com by phone and provide them your 16-digit card number. Make sure not to confuse your 16-digit card number with your Amazon gift card claim number. Your Amazon card claim number is located on the back of your card. You may need to scratch off the coating on the back of you Amazon gift card to reveal your Amazon claim code.

You can also login to the Amazon website, got to Accounts and Lists and click "Your Account" from the menu. Click the "Gift Cards" box and follow the steps as instructed.

Another option to decipher your unreadable Amazon gift card is to download the Amazon app for your Android or iPhone and scan the bar code on the phone (note that this is not a QR code, so please do not use a QR reader app).

Yet another recourse for you, if your Amazon gift card has an unreadable claim code, is to return to the retailer, if the card was purchased from a store. Obviously, it's best to have the receipt of the card purchase. Approach the store's customer service desk or a cashier, explain your dilemma, and ask for help.
