If I Don't Claim an Amazon Gift Card, What Happens?

Amazon physical gift cards and digital gift cards never expire which means you can still use the gift card in the future. However, you'll need to redeem them first before using them to purchase items on Amazon. To redeem a gift card, find the claim code or click the email link sent by Amazon. Sign in to your Amazon account to add the gift card balance to your account.

Amazon is a household name. The online retailer sells a myriad of goods ranging from books and electronics to clothing and home goods. Sometimes, however, people receive Amazon gift cards and forget to use or claim them. Luckily, Amazon gift cards never expire, which means you can still use them at any time in the future. If you're ready to use the gift cards, make sure you redeem them first. To redeem or claim a gift card, follow the steps below:

For physical gift cards:

1. Find the gift card's claim code and go to Redeem a Gift Card page.

2. Type in the claim code and apply it to your Amazon balance.

E-gift card:

1. Open the e-gift card email sent by Amazon and click on the link.

2. Log in to your account to add the gift card balance to Your Balance.

You can keep any unused gift card balance and use it to purchase any items at the Amazon store. If the amount on your Amazon gift card balance is less than the order total, the remaining amount will be charged to your credit card or the default payment method registered to your account. Keep in mind though that you're unable to use the balance on your gift card to purchase other gift cards. You also can't transfer the gift card balance to another account.

What Happens If You Can't Redeem the Gift Card

When you see an error message after redeeming the gift card, log in to your account as it might already have been added to your Amazon balance. If the claim code on the physical Amazon gift card is unreadable, contact Amazon Customer Support and provide them with the 16 or 30-digit serial number of the gift card. You will also need to provide your complete name (if you purchased it), the address where the gift card was sent and or the order number if you have any. If you have questions about Amazon gift cards, don't hesitate to get in touch with Amazon Customer Support.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Amazon Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Amazon in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our If I Don't Claim an Amazon Gift Card, What Happens? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
