I wanted to explore plan options for my father, who uses the StraightTalk cell phone plan. I am looking at different phone options, but to compare whether it is worth making him switch, I need to know what plan options StraightTalk has besides the one that he currently uses. Therefore, I called the customer service line to get some help. While I eventually got to a customer service representative who could help me, it was quite the process. There are numerous phone directories that are quite extensive, and it's easy to get confused along the way. As a note, if you don't answer quickly, you will get hung up on.
When I first called, there was no introduction — just a line of options. It apparently is to some umbrella company because it gave me options to call almost a dozen different phone companies. It told me, "For Straight Talk, press 1. For Tracfone, press 2. For Safelink, press 3. For Walmart Family Mobile, press 4. For Simple Mobile, press 5. For Net10, press 6. For Total by Horizon, press 7. For more brands, press 8."
Obviously, I chose 1, which led me to a new set of options. This time around, it said, "Thank you for calling Straight Talk. This call may be recorded for quality assurance. To refill your service or add a plan from your reserve, press 1. To activate your device, press 2. To add a line to an existing account, press 3. To enroll in auto refill, press 4. To change your phone number, press 5. For technical support, press 6. To purchase a SIM card or accessories, press 7. For any other service, press 8."
This time, I chose 8 because I wanted to talk about plan options, and that wasn't really represented by any other question. It then instructed me to press 1 if calling about home internet services; otherwise, press 2. I pressed 2, and a new automated voice started talking. This time, it said, "Okay, let's get started. Say the phone number you are calling about. If you don't have one, say I don't have one." I gave my dad's number, and then, it repeated the number back to me and asked how it could help me.
I said, "Talk about plan options." I thought that it was going to help me, but then it gave me a speech about carrier eligibility and issues. It asked for my ZIP code to certify eligibility and said it was running a check on the phone to make sure everything was set up. Then, it told me that the phone needed to be reset, which was odd and not related to any problems I was actually having. It asked if I wanted to hear the recording again, and I said no. This was the magic trick, as it then said it would get a representative to help me, and someone answered within seconds. I was able to ask about the plan and get information from this associate.
