If you have an AT&T phone and you want a new phone number, it's pretty easy to get. This article will teach you how.

AT&T's Wireless Phone Number Change Policy

If you change the number within 30 days of activation, the change is free. If it's been more than 30 days, you'll need to pay a $36 number change fee.

How to Change Your AT&T Number Online

To change you number online, follow these instructions:

  1. Listen to your voicemail messages and write down anything important. When your number changes, your voicemail changes, and your old messages will not be carried over to your new voicemail.
  2. Go to AT&T's web page.
  3. Sign into your account.
  4. Navigate to Mobile Number Change.
  5. Select your device.
  6. Follow the prompts.

Other Ways to Change Your AT&T Number

You can also change your number by going to an AT&T store or calling an AT&T customer service representative. Either way, the representative will walk you through the process.

How to Record a New Voicemail Greeting

After you have changed your number, you will need to record a new voicemail greeting. Follow these instructions:

  1. Turn on your phone.
  2. Hold down the "1" key.
  3. If prompted, enter your voicemail password.
  4. Choose option #4 from the main menu to get to Personal Options.
  5. Press "3" to change greetings.
  6. Follow the prompts to record a new greeting.

Note that prompts do tend to change from time to time, so listen carefully to the instructions before making a selection.

Updating the Wireless Number for Your User ID

You should also update the wireless number for your user ID by following these instructions:

  1. After signing into your AT&T account, go to your Profile.
  2. Select Contact Info.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Find the My AT&T Wireless Number section.
  5. Select Add, Edit, or Remove.
  6. Click on Save.
  7. Enter the verification code you are sent.
