How to Cancel a Comcast Service

Here are the steps for cancelling a Comcast plan:

1. Prepare a valid excuse

The process of making a cancelation with Comcast is not always easy. But, you can improve your chances by arming yourself with a solid excuse. Comcast customer representatives will fight tooth and nail to make you change your mind about the service cancelation. Before you call the retention department you need to ensure you know what you will say. Don't just say, "Just because…" when a customer care agent asks you why you want to cancel the service. One of the best excuses to give is that you are moving to another location that doesn't have access to Comcast services. Or, say you are moving in with a family member, friend or partner who has the service already.

2. Call Comcast Customer Care

The best way to reach out to Comcast is through their customer service number. Alternatively you can send them a cancelation report via email to have them call you. When you get in touch with Comcast ask if that is the department that handles service cancellations. If the other person at the end of the call says no, ask them to transfer you to the retention department.

3. Be Firm, But Friendly

Comcast retention department agents will use all possible tactics to prevent you from leaving. They will offer you better deals, free upgrades or offer to move the service to your new address. The agents will offer all sorts of attractive deals to get you to postpone your cancellation. Do not listen to them. Simply tell them firmly and politely that you want to cancel the service. It is essential to be nice while making your request, because the Comcast representative you are speaking to has your fate in their hands. He or she can turn off your service to early or fail to cancel it completely. If you are polite, the agent will arrange the cancelation on the correct date, send out containers for any equipment and do everything perfectly.

4. Return the Comcast Equipment

One of the most risky aspects of cancelling a Comcast service is how you return the equipment. The service provider will charge you for any piece of equipment you do not return the way they want. To avoid unreturned equipment fees, you should ask Comcast about the equipment listed in your file and jot it down. Additionally, take note of the serial numbers the company has on file. After that, return the equipment to Comcast. You can do so in three ways: at a physical Comcast store, using a prepaid box, or go to a UPS store. Ensure to photograph all the equipment and their respective serial numbers.

5. Call Again to Confirm the Service Cancellation

Lastly, you'll want to confirm that your service has been cancelled effectively. Once everything is finished, contact Comcast again and ask about your account status. Also ask if you have an outstanding balance or any unreturned equipment.
