If you have a landline with Verizon and wish to cancel it, it's relatively easy to do so. It's estimated that less than half of American households have a landline anymore. With every member of your family owning a mobile phone, a landline can be costing you extra money. Or, you could have found a much more affordable landline plan with another company or have been disappointed with Verizon's services lately.

There are three ways you can cancel your landline for Verizon, by calling into the customer service team, using the live chat on their website, or by visiting a retail location. Keep reading for the step-by-step instructions for all the options.

Call Into Verizon Customer Service

  1. Call the Verizon Customer Service team.

  2. Note that the hours of operation for the team are Monday to Fridays from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, and Saturday and Sundays from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm local time. The average wait time is 15 minutes.

  3. Explain to the customer service representative that you wish to cancel your landline. You will need to provide your contact information as it matches the Verizon account details on file.

  4. The customer service representative will likely try to sway you to keep your landline or offer you discounts and promotions. Politely decline all of these offers.

  5. Ask about any outstanding charges that may be applied to your account, cancelation fees, and the date when the last payment will be applied.

  6. Make sure to ask for an email verifying that your landline has been canceled. Keep the customer service representative on the line until you receive the email.

Use Verizon Live Chat

  1. Speak with a customer service representative via the Verizon Live Chat.

  2. Note that the hours of operation for the team are Monday to Fridays from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Saturday and Sundays from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm CST. The average wait time is 21 minutes.

  3. Explain to the customer service representative that you wish to cancel your landline. You will need to provide your contact information as it matches the Verizon account details on file.

  4. The customer service representative will likely try to sway you to keep your landline or offer you discounts and promotions. Politely decline all of these offers.

  5. Ask about any outstanding charges that may be applied to your account, cancelation fees, and the date when the last payment will be applied.

  6. Make sure to ask for an email verifying that your landline has been canceled. Ask the customer service representative to stay on the chat until you receive the email.

Cancel In Person

You can also go to a Verizon retail location and ask to cancel your landline in person. This is not a good option for people that are swayed easily. It is much harder to stand your ground and politely decline offers for promotions and discounts in person compared to over the phone.

If you successfully cancel in person, ask the same questions you would as if you were doing this online. Ask for clarification about any cancelation fees, the last day for payment, and ask them to send you an email verifying your landline has been canceled.
