What is Tricare?

Asked a year ago
Tricare is a comprehensive healthcare program that serves active duty service members, retirees, and their families. It is managed by the Department of Defense and provides medical coverage both within and outside the military healthcare system. Tricare offers several different plans, including Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare for Life. Tricare Prime is a managed care option with primary care providers and referrals for specialty care. Tricare Standard allows beneficiaries to select their own healthcare providers, including specialists, without needing a referral. Tricare for Life is available to individuals who are eligible for Medicare and provides supplemental coverage. Tricare ensures that eligible members have access to quality healthcare services, including doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription medications, and preventive care.
