Bluebird by American Express is a prepaid card that allows you to shop and bank plus have a multitude of exclusive American Express offers. The cards are often portrayed as no-fee checking accounts.

Each Bluebird account can only have one user who gets a unique credit card number. The only way to get more accounts is to have friends and family to get them and let you manage the cards for them.

The authorized owner of the American Express card is also the only one who can claim the exclusive offers. The signing up process includes some stringent requirements.

A background check will have to be conducted which will include a scrutiny of all public records to ascertain your identity. You will also be prompted to submit your proof if identity which often involves the submission of a driving license, national ID, social security or passport.

The extensive background check is to ensure that applicants are older than 18 years old and have active social security numbers. Each account also needs to be tied to a valid email address which the user has to submit.

American Express consider security their top priority. Each Bluebird account has to have a four-digit PIN and a password. You will also to choose a security question and answer.

Adding other people to your account has many benefits whether it is your child, wife, husband, personal friend or relative. One of them is that you can track spending by all parties involved accurately with different statements about each user's spending. You can add up to four family members or friends to an American Express Bluebird card. Only the account holder can set limits on the spending of the others.

There is an annual limit of $100,000 for all American Express Bluebird accounts. You can transfer up to $2,000 a month from your bank account. You can also transfer $200 a day and $1,000 a month from a debit account.

Moreover, you can also deposit up to $2,000 a day and $5,000 a month in person at Walmart stores countrywide for absolutely free. You can also transfer funds to your account by depositing up to $5,000 by check via the Mobile Check Capture feature in the mobile app.

1. Open your web browser

2. Go to the American Express Website

3. Click the Bluebird tab from the main menu. You will be redirected to the Bluebird log in page

4. Login to your Bluebird account and subsequently open 'Family Accounts'

5. Click on "Create a family account" and follow the instructions given

6. You will need to submit a username and temporary password for your family account. The other authorized account user will need this information to access the account

7. A new card will be sent out to the registered address for your friend or loved one. You may also input a different address if the card is not being sent to your location

8. Your friend or relative will have to verify their email address and activate the card before they can use it.
