How Do I Open an Account with Ally Invest?

US citizens can open an Ally Invest account if they're living in the US, except for military personnel as there might be exceptions to this. Only foreigners with valid Social Security numbers and living in the US can open an account. Clients can open a Wealth Management Account, Self Direct Trading and Robo Portfolio.

All clients must be in the US to open an Ally Invest account, except for military personnel. Ally Invest may make an exception for this. For foreigners, they can open an account only when they have a valid Social Security number and reside in the U.S.

Opening an Account

Below are the steps to open a Robo Portfolio, Self-Directed Trading account or Wealth Management Account with Ally Invest.

Robo Portfolios

Below are detailed steps:

1. Go to Robo Portfolios
2. Choose Create My Plan and get a recommendation
3. Review the customized plan and hit Open an Account
4. Type in all the required information and select the account type and funding options
5. Wait for the email from Ally Invest to know if you got approved. Follow the instructions on how to move forward with your application.

Self-Directed Trading

Check for the steps below:

1. Open the Ally Invest website and go to Self-Directed Trading
2. Choose Start Trading to get started with your application
3. Type in all required personal information
4. Select the account type and funding options
5. For approval, wait for the Ally Invest email and follow the instructions on how to move forward.

Wealth Management

You can only apply for a Wealth Management Account if you are already an Ally Bank client and you have at least $100,000 in your account. Simply open Ally Invest, go to Wealth Management and Schedule an appointment. Wait for the call to discuss the process. The advisor will open the account for you if you wish to move forward.

Is There a Minimum Deposit for Ally Invest?

You will need to deposit a minimum of $100 to open a Robo portfolio and a $2,000 deposit for a self-directed brokerage margin account. There is no minimum deposit for the brokerage cash account. For Wealth Management, it will be at least $100,000 and it will be managed by Ally Invest.
