Airbnb has changed the way people travel around the world by allowing property owners to open their homes, campers, or other structure to individuals seeking accommodations different than the same old hotel rooms. Sometimes, however, the accommodations are not quite what they were advertised to be. How to you file a complaint about a property to Airbnb? You can learn more about Airbnb policies by contacting traveler support here, and below are steps to filing a property complaint.

Filing a Property Complaint to Airbnb

There are several steps to making a formal complaint with Airbnb when you have a bad host or there is another issue with the property. Follow these steps:

  1. The first thing you should do is contact the host directly through the Airbnb website. Log into your account, find the reservation you want to dispute and follow the steps to reach out to the host. It is best practice to use the Airbnb site to contact the host so there is a record there is a dispute with the company.
  2. If the host doesn't respond, the next step is to contact Airbnb online or via calling the customer service number here.
  3. Know the refund policy for your particular stay to make sure you are getting the refund amount due if the matter is resolved in your favor.
  4. Submit the refund request through Airbnb.

Neighbor Complaint

Airbnb also allows individuals in a neighborhood to file a complaint about an Airbnb on their block that is creating a nuisance. To file a neighbor complaint, do the following:

  1. Open Airbnb's website on your computer.
  2. In the upper-right-hand corner of the screen, open the drop-down menu by clicking the three horizontal lines in the login bubble.
  3. Select "Help" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Type "neighbor complaint" in the search bar and hit the enter key.
  5. Click "Neighborhood Support" in the search results.
  6. Select "Request a Call" for urgent or emergency matters such as out-of-control party or criminal activity on the property.
  7. Select "Other Neighborhood Concerns" for matters such as parking in unauthorized spots or other inconveniences.
  8. Provide the nature of the complaint and the listing number or address when making the complaint.

Airbnb works directly with the hosts to resolve the matter, and Airbnb policy requires hosts be good, responsible neighbors. Multiple violations can result in a listing being removed from the platform, and even when not removed can impact the listing in other negative ways.

Filing a complaint with Airbnb is easy using the customer support number or online forms that allow both guests and neighbors to file complaints when necessary. For more information or assistance with an Airbnb complaint, contact customer support here.
