You do not have to wait for too long to get a phone upgrade. You can upgrade early by trading in your phone. Do this through an installment plan of your choice.

To upgrade early;

1. Visit the AT&T page online, where you will be required to sign in.
2. Go to the "Upgrade your device" column
3. View the eligibility status for a specific device you want to do the update. If you see that your payments are remaining, it means that you have not cleared your balance for the installment plan. You can decide to pay there and then by selecting a payment option and proceeding with the payments.
4. If you are eligible to upgrade, you can continue with the process.
5. Choose your new phone and check out.

There are ways in which you can upgrade your phone with AT&T Next and AT&T Next Every Year installment plans.

Upgrade Eligible2- you will first pay the required percentage of each installment plan, then you can trade in your device when it is in good condition then upgrade to a new contract of your choice.

You can also do a prepay to upgrade your device- you can do this faster by paying a tremendous amount of money to meet the required percentage to be eligible for a trade-in. You will be required to give up your current phone or begin the trade-in process online before upgrading.

Pay off installment- you can finish paying your installment balance anytime, then buy a new phone and remain with the old one.

When Can I Upgrade My AT&T U-Verse Phone?

For you to be able to improve your AT&T U-Verse phone, you need to be eligible. To check your eligibility to update in AT&T;

1. Go to myAT&T website and log in to your account.
2. Go to the account overview section and click on My wireless option to open the section.
3. If you have multiple devices to choose from, choose the one you want to upgrade
4. Check the status of your device. If you are shown "Ready to upgrade" or "upgrade ready," you are in a position to update your device.

If you are using any of the installment plans;

For the AT&T installment plan- you will be required first to pay your installment balance in full if you have any before going for an upgrade. But you can still keep your old device. With this plan, you are not trade-in eligible.

For the AT&T installment plan with Next Up- you will be eligible to upgrade if you pay 50% of the device price and give it up for an exchange with an additional charge of $5for your monthly Next Up charge.

For AT&T Next Every Year – you will be required to pay 50% of your phone's price to be eligible for a trade-in.

For AT&T Next you will pay 80% of the total price of your phone to qualify for a trade-in.

If by any chance, you don't pay for a phone on an installment plan, you will still be owing to the remaining balance on the phone and will eventually have to pay it.
