Hello,
I would like to provide my details for clarification. My National Insurance Number is SR529389B, and my name is Attianese AnnaRita. I reside at Flat 17, [redacted]-[redacted] High Road Leyton, E10 6RA, London. Currently, I am receiving £[redacted].00 every four weeks in Child Tax Credit. However, after using the tax credit calculator on the Gov.UK website, it suggests that I could be eligible for additional benefits as follows:
- £[redacted].95 every four weeks for Child Tax Credit
- £[redacted].35 every four weeks for the Childcare element
- £[redacted].81 every four weeks for Working Tax Credit
I kindly request an explanation regarding the difference in the amounts I am receiving and the calculated results. Could you please advise if I am eligible to receive the additional amounts calculated by the tax credit tool?
Thank you for your assistance,
Anna Rita

Subject: Clarification on Business Mileage Deductions
I have a question regarding business mileage deductions, specifically in the scenario of traveling to a temporary workplace in a different location for a day within the same group of offices. While I understand that commuting to a permanent workplace is not tax-deductible, I am uncertain about claiming business mileage when traveling directly from home to an office in another part of the country that is not my primary place of work.
My employer suggests deducting the commute if I first go to my permanent office before heading to the other location, which I agree with. However, in this case, when traveling directly from home to the alternate office, which is in the opposite direction, I seek clarification on whether I can claim the full business miles as it does not involve my regular place of work.
I would appreciate clarification from HMRC on this matter to ensure I handle my deductions correctly. Thank you for your advice and assistance.
Best regards

I am inquiring about the tax implications of my return to the UK after living overseas for 30 years in relation to my property. Here are the details:
- I left the UK in [redacted] and have been a non-resident since then. I plan to return next year.
- I purchased a flat in London in [redacted] for 75K and am looking to sell it for around 350K, resulting in a significant capital gain.
- I am aware that there used to be no UK capital gains tax for non-residents in the past.
- I understand that non-residents are now subject to some capital gains tax, likely calculated pro rata for the period after the tax rule change a couple of years ago.
- I heard that if the sale occurs in the tax year I become a UK tax resident again, I could be liable for capital gains tax for the entire ownership period, regardless of how much time I spent abroad.
- I am seeking clarification on whether selling the property in the current tax year (2[redacted]) will impact my tax liability based on my return date before or after April 1, [redacted].

I have a question about making Voluntary National Insurance Contributions (NIC).
My National Insurance Number is YY 70 68 39 C. I voluntarily left my job in September [redacted] and I am currently not working or receiving benefits. I was informed by the Department for Work and Pensions that I had paid enough NIC for the tax year [redacted]/19 before leaving my job at the end of September [redacted]. I recently received my Pension Forecast on 03/10/18, which states that I need to continue making Class 3 NIC contributions for my maximum pension.
Could you confirm that I need to pay Class 3 NIC and provide guidance on how and when to make these payments? I aim to make contributions until I am eligible for the state pension on 19/03/22 without covering any employment gaps.

I am currently experiencing a significant issue with my company incorrectly applying emergency tax and using the wrong tax code for the past 8 months. Despite providing multiple documents from HMRC with my correct tax code, they insist on needing official instructions from HMRC to make any changes. I have been unable to reach HMRC by phone and have not received assistance via their website. This situation has been incredibly frustrating. How can I ensure HMRC sends the necessary instructions to my employer to update my tax code and reimburse the overcharged amount? My current tax code is 1185L while the correct code should be 1034L. It has been incorrect for 8 months now. I am unsure whether to wait for the new financial year to begin for it to hopefully reset. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

To whom it may concern,
I worked from April [redacted] to August [redacted], then traveled abroad for 4 months. I resumed work in January and received pay in February and March but have not received my tax refund yet. My tax code on the payslip shows as 1185L - W1, which is confusing as I provided my company with my updated tax code of 1185L from HMRC before being paid. Despite this, the issue remains unresolved, and communicating with the company's accountant through an intermediary has been challenging due to my workplace being relatively new. I seek confirmation of the amount owed to me in tax refund and fear that if not addressed soon, it might carry over to the following year's payments. I am in need of the tax refund as I am currently facing financial difficulties.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I participated in a product design competition for my old university and won, receiving payment in June [redacted]. To process the payment, I registered for self-assessment and obtained a UTR number. I expected to pay taxes for this income in the tax year from April [redacted] to [redacted]. However, I recently received a £[redacted] fine for not submitting tax returns. If I was supposed to submit for the tax year April [redacted]-19, I was unaware and seek advice on how to pay. If the tax is due for the current tax year (April [redacted]-20), I request the fine be rescinded as I have no additional taxable income. I am struggling to clarify this through the website as it crashes when trying to log in, and I cannot find clear advice on how to proceed. I appreciate any assistance. Thank you. Will

I recently opened a Stocks and Shares ISA with Vanguard for this financial year [redacted]/20. However, my bank mistakenly sent two payments of £[redacted] each to my previous year's provider, Interactive Investor. After withdrawing the funds from Interactive Investor and ensuring they were not invested, I have communicated to them that I do not wish to continue the ISA with them this year. I want to solely have the Vanguard ISA. Given the ISA regulations, I'm disclosing this mix-up to you. My details are as follows: Robert S. with National Insurance No. WA295696D, Interactive Investor ISA account [redacted], and Vanguard ISA VG[redacted]. My contact numbers are [redacted]2 (mobile) and [redacted]0 (home). Kindly let me know if further action is required. Thank you.

Subject: Concern Regarding Lunch Break Entitlement
Hello HMRC Team,
I am Liviu T. and I have concerns regarding the entitlement of employees to lunch breaks. At my workplace, Snow and Rock UK (CycleSurgery department), employees are told they cannot have a legal lunch break when working for six hours. Yesterday, my assistant manager, Hugh R., confronted me in the office and stated that employees working six hours on a Sunday, like myself from 11 AM to 5 PM, are not entitled to a lunch break due to productivity issues on that day. However, after researching on the HMRC website, I found information that contradicts this claim. Other employees working the same hours on the same day are allowed breaks while I am denied.
Could you please clarify if what my assistant manager is stating aligns with legal regulations?
Kind regards,
Liviu T.

I recently received a penalty notice for not submitting a tax return for the tax year ending in April [redacted]. I have already filled out the form to appeal this decision, explaining that I was not in the country during the tax years of [redacted] to [redacted] as I was living in Australia. I returned to the UK in November [redacted] and began working in March [redacted]. I submitted the appeal on April 28, [redacted]. Unfortunately, I have been unable to reach anyone through your customer service line as it constantly plays recorded messages and then disconnects. I have now received another reminder for late submission penalties. My accountant has advised that I am not required to fill out a tax return. I urgently need to speak to a representative to address this issue as it seems my appeal form has been overlooked. It is frustrating not being able to speak to a person about this matter.

A sender from China divided an item into four parcels with a total value of £[redacted]. After holding the item, Royal Mail requested £32 per parcel, but only three parcels were received. Royal Mail overcharged by considering each parcel to be worth £[redacted] instead of dividing the cost by four. When contacted, Royal Mail directed the sender to HMRC to dispute the charge but required payment upfront to avoid returning the items. This system puts the customer in a dilemma, as they must pay first and then dispute, risking losing the paid items. Holding paid goods for ransom until the fee is disputed is unfair. Customers should have the opportunity to challenge charges before making payments.

I contacted HMRC twice, and they confirmed receiving the forms but advised me to wait for the refund with no specific timeline. I am unsure how long the refund process takes. Thank you for your assistance.

Hello, my name is Ahmed Talal. I recently won the Unilever company lottery at the 2nd prize. They instructed me to open an offshore account in the UK with Coutts Bank. After the money was transferred to my UK account through my representative, I attempted to make an international transaction to my Saudi Arabian account but found out it was frozen by HMRC due to taxable funds not being cleared for taxes, which I was unaware of as Saudi Arabia does not have taxes on employee earnings or lottery winnings. HMRC requested tax payment to unfreeze my account, which I cannot afford. I am unfamiliar with the tax procedures as a non-British citizen residing in Saudi Arabia. I have not received any information regarding this matter via my bank, email, or phone. My case number is HM[redacted]1. I seek assistance in regaining access to my account to settle the taxes owed. Any guidance on the process would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm Daniel from Lowri Beck Services, and I would like to inquire about the accuracy of a P6 form we received electronically for our employee, Paul Findlow. The P6 indicates a taxable previous amount of £20,[redacted] and tax paid of £[redacted].65, coupled with his new tax code 1375M, resulting in a tax rebate exceeding £[redacted] for him. I am seeking verification as these are significant figures, especially considering Paul's tenure with us since [redacted]. Since he has not changed employers during these past 5 years, the taxable previous and tax paid previous amounts may not be applicable, prompting us to place Paul on a Wk1 code until we receive confirmation regarding the details on the P6 form.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best regards, Daniel

I am Daniel from Lowri Beck Services, and I am reaching out regarding our Paye reference of [redacted]/WGL1092. I want to confirm the accuracy of a received P6 for our employee, Paul Findlow. The P6 indicates taxable previous earnings of £20,[redacted] and tax paid of £[redacted].65. Coupled with his new tax code 1375M, this suggests a tax rebate of over £[redacted] for him. This amount seems high, especially considering Paul's tenure with us since [redacted]. I'm questioning the taxable previous income and tax paid figures as they seem unnecessary given his longstanding employment. As a precaution, we have placed Paul on a Wk1 code in case there was an error on the P6 resulting in an inflated tax code.
Awaiting your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Daniel

Subject: Urgent Family Reunification Assistance Request
17 September [redacted]
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this email reaches you in good health.
I am reaching out to you not only as a wife missing her husband dearly, but also as a concerned mother regarding my son's well-being.
My husband, Kayle D. E., resided in the United Kingdom for 13 years, obtaining British Citizenship during that time. After returning to South Africa for some years, we met four years ago. We are now parents to a three-year-old son born on 24 June [redacted] and have been married since 24 November [redacted].
Due to limited job opportunities in our country, we used our savings to send Kayle to the UK for three weeks in July [redacted]. He was able to secure permanent employment at Vines of Gatwick BMW in Crawley. His return flight was booked for 5 September [redacted] to start work on 9 September [redacted]. He is passionate about our son experiencing the same opportunities he had in the UK, where he completed his BMW Technician apprenticeship.
Unfortunately, my father-in-law's redundancy in [redacted] led us to sell our property, leaving my son and me potentially homeless in a month or two. Financially, it will be challenging to save for Visas due to the high exchange rate. Our son is emotionally struggling and yearns for his father's presence.
Is there any way the British Government could help expedite our family reunification in the UK? This is not only for our son's well-being but also to preserve the relationship between father and son and our marriage.
For any further correspondence, please reach us at:
Elizabeth Else - +27 61 [redacted] - [redacted]
Kayle Else - +44 [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] - [redacted]
Warm regards,
Elizabeth E.

I would like to verify if HMRC has received my SDLT refund claim, which I submitted online. I have attempted to log back into the government portal using the provided gateway user ID and password, but it keeps showing as incorrect. I am certain the details are accurate as I have them on my phone from their messages. When trying to reach out via phone at [redacted]0, I have gone through all the options only to be abruptly disconnected at the end of each call. I am unsure of how to confirm if my request is being processed since I cannot reach them through any means. The email I received does not have any contact details except for a live web chat which I am unable to find.
