If you plan to stay at one of Starwood's many resorts or hotels, you may be wondering what the company's coronavirus chance or cancellation policy is, just in case. Since Starwood was purchased by Marriott and is now one of Marriott's brands, it is governed by Marriott's coronavirus change or cancellation policy. Keep reading to learn more about it.

Marriott's Current Coronavirus Change or Cancellation Policy

Currently, Marriott does not have any change or cancellation policy that is specific to the coronavirus. Instead, its normal policy applies. For individual guests, this policy is that all guests need to make any changes or cancellations 2 days ahead of their reservation if they want to avoid paying a fee. In the case of some individual hotels and resorts, this is extended to 3 days. For group reservations, the policy can vary. You will need to check the rules that the group organizer agreed to when making the booking to find out what applies in your case.

Please note that if you made your reservation through a travel agent or other third party provider, you will need to consult that provider's change and cancellation policy, not Marriott's.

Marriott's Previous Coronavirus Change or Cancellation Policy

Previously, Marriott hotels and resorts had a special coronavirus change and cancellation policy. This policy changed the time that guests could make a change or cancellation without a fee to more than 24 hours before check in time. It is possible that, if coronavirus circumstances change, the company would go back to using something like this policy.

Marriott's Travel Insurance

Marriott hotels and resorts, including those under the Starwood brand, offer guests the opportunity to purchase travel insurance. This provides reimbursement even for non-refundable costs if a change or cancellation has to be made for any of a variety of reasons, including the coronavirus.
