Adding an Authorized User

You can add an authorized user to your Capital One account online by following these steps:

  1. Open Capital One's website in your computer browser.
  2. Log into your account.
  3. Click on the card which will have an authorized user added.
  4. Select "I want to..." from the menu.
  5. Choose "Add Account User" under "Control Your Card."
  6. Designate if you wish to add the individual as an account manager or an authorized user.
    • Account Manager: This gives the authorized user full access and rights to the credit card account.
    • Authorized User: This allows limited access to the account such as ability to use the card for purchases. This individual cannot request line of credit increases or make other changes to the account.
  7. Enter the following information about the new user to the Capital One account:
    • First and Last Name
    • Phone Number
    • Date of Birth
    • Social Security Number (Optional).
  8. Click "Continue."
  9. Confirm you have read the terms and conditions.
  10. Select "Add User" to complete the process.
  11. Your newly authorized user will receive his or her own card in the mail. Activate the card when it arrives, so they can begin utilizing the account.

Removing an Authorized User

If you wish to remove an authorized user from your Capital One account, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Capital One's website in your computer browser.
  2. Log into your account.
  3. Go to "Manage Account Users."
  4. Select the name of the person you want to remove.
  5. Click "Remove user."
  6. This person will be removed as an authorized user on your account and will no longer be able to use the card they have.
