What are the hours and when should I call?
Con Edison operates the call center for this 800-752-6633 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Wednesday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 1,233 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
When you use our free AI-powered phone to call and talk, wait on hold, or navigate for you, it will automatically wait until the Con Edison call center opens before trying to call. It will ask your permission before it places the call, so you can also further delay that scheduled call until you are ready. But that means you can "set it and forget it" ahead of time.
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Con Edison phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Con Edison staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

When calling Con Edison, it's important to know that you can get service seven days a week. That's because Con Edison offers a strong automated system that is genuinely helpful to customers and can get them to a helper at any time of day.
When I called, I was taken to the automated menu and was given several choices, such as reporting a power outage, needing to ask about an electric bill or needing to set up or end service at either my current or my previous location.
I opted for setting up service, and I was told that I could speak with Watt, which is Con Edison's virtual assistant. If I chose that option, I'd get a link sent to my phone where I could connect with Watt and get new service at my new location, along with disconnecting previous service. I said that I'd like to pursue that option, and I immediately received a link to speak with Watt. The text message told me this link would expire after 10 minutes, although this is not true. The message appears to remain operational indefinitely, as I tested it again well after the call and easily connected with Watt.
Once I said that I wanted to connect with Watt and got the text link, the system thanked me for calling Con Edison and said goodbye before hanging up. There's no option to go back or go to another part of the menu; once you connect with Watt, that ends your call.
Overall, I thought this service was helpful. Many people are fine with talking to an automated assistant, and this one appears to offer genuine assistance. I don't love that you can't go back, but that was the lone negative. If I were a customer of Con Edison, I'd use this number for assistance.
