What are the hours and when should I call?

Capital One operates the call center for this 877-442-3764 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Friday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 60 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Capital One phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Capital One staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

Calling this Capital One Customer Number

Calling Capital One's 877-442-3764 phone number was actually very straightforward and pleasant, despite general customer service not being the main purpose of this phone number. Capital One intends this number for people who are having issues signing into their accounts, but I was still able to use it to get to a customer service representative and get information about starting a new account.

When I dialed this number, I was immediately connected with Capital One's automated system, which asked me the reason why I was calling. I said I wanted to get information about setting up a new bank account, and the system said it would direct me to the next representative.

After a short wait, I was connected with a representative who asked how he could assist me. I told him that I was interested in opening an account with Capital One, and he said he'd be happy to provide me with information. He said that one of the main benefits of Capital One's checking accounts was that it offered automatic overdraft protection, so if I did go over, I wouldn't be charged anything for overdrawing my account.

I asked him to explain that further, and he said that while Capital One would prefer to get the account back to positive as quickly as possible, he'd seen some customers go two weeks or longer in the grace period without getting charged. He added that another major benefit of Capital One was that its checking accounts would gain interest. He said that at the time I was calling, every Capital One checking account would provide 0.1% APR interest into my account.

I asked what the cost would be to open an account, and he said that Capital One's checking accounts were completely free to open and maintain. There wouldn't be a minimum balance to maintain it or a minimum deposit amount to waive fees, and there wouldn't be any cost to open, deposit or withdraw from my account. I asked him to confirm that there wouldn't be any way to trigger a monthly fee, and he confirmed that was the case.

With all of my questions answered, I chose to end the call at that time and thanked him for his time and assistance. He said I was welcome to call back if I had any further questions, and we ended the call.

Overall, I thought this was a strong performance from the customer service team. I didn't have a long wait to get connected to someone, nor did I have any issues with the automated system. I got all my questions answered, and the representative projected an air of helpfulness and expert-level knowledge in offering assistance. At no point did I feel like the representative was dismissive of me or my questions.

Based on this experience, I would absolutely use this number to call Capital One if I needed assistance from its team.
