What are the hours and when should I call?

AAA operates the call center for this 800-922-8228 phone number Mon-Fri 8:30am-5pm ET. The short answer is that you should call on a Thursday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 80 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this AAA phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like AAA staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy time to call

The least busy day to call AAA is Thursday. The most busy day to call is Monday, which averages 189% more phone calls by comparison. Again, this is based on a sample of 80 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

The best time to call

In summation, the best day to call AAA is Thursday. This is not the day with the shortest wait on hold in the phone system, but we still recommend it for its ideal combination of low call volume and short hold times. Plus we believe that AAA staffs the call center well on Thursday.

Calling this AAA Customer Number

When you call AAA Travel, you're immediately told that you are likely to face a long wait and are encouraged to check out the AAA website rather than wait for a representative to connect with you over the phone. However, I found that I was instantly connected to the representative, who began working with me on finding my account number so that she could send maps over to me for an upcoming visit to Hawaii.

The rep was very professional, however, I was unable to get help because I live in a different region from the area that she serves, which is something that AAA doesn't really make plain. When you call AAA, it's best to make sure that you're calling the number for your region, as this number does not automatically connect you to AAA's operations in your state the way some other AAA numbers will. As such, the representative was unable to help me, as she informed me that even though all numbers are under the AAA umbrella, they can only help members in their own region, and this number represents the western region of AAA's services.

I did find that the menu was fairly helpful, as it covered several possible options that could give information on a wide range of travel possibilities. The menu mentioned help with Disney visits, cruises, flights and more, with the possibility of getting helpful travel information in advance of your trip.

In order to take advantage of these services, you must be a AAA member. It does help to have your membership number available to speed up the process, although you can also provide your name or phone number to look up an account.

I found the rep very knowledgeable and pleasant in her demeanor. When I explained that I'd be traveling in a couple weeks, she said that was enough time to get me the maps I was requesting and she'd be happy to provide any information as long as I was a member in her region. Unfortunately, I did not meet that requirement, which meant I could not complete my request successfully.

The automation software does not appear to recognize callers by phone number, as the representative did not recognize me by name or number the way some other companies where I am a customer do. However, given that you do provide your number, it is likely a callback feature exists should a call get disconnected.

Should a call be unsuccessful, it's a good idea to check AAA's website and see if you can find information there. If you still need help, you should double check that you fall into the territory where this number can actually help you. If you aren't located in the western region of AAA's service map, you won't be able to use this number for help with anything.
