Are Wikipedia articles reliable sources of information?

Asked a year ago
Wikipedia articles should be used cautiously and not solely relied upon as reliable sources of information. While Wikipedia is a valuable resource for an overview of a topic, it is a collaborative platform where anyone can edit or contribute. This openness can lead to inaccuracies, bias, or vandalism in articles. Wikipedia lacks rigorous fact-checking processes compared to academic sources or reputable news outlets. However, Wikipedia does strive for verifiability, citing reliable sources for statements made in articles. It is best to use Wikipedia as a starting point for research, but then cross-reference information with more trustworthy sources. Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the reader to verify the accuracy and reliability of the information obtained from Wikipedia.
