Verizon FiOS uses fiber optic cables to transmit data for internet speeds faster than standard copper cables. Fiber optics also send data farther, have equal upload/download speeds, and has less interference. So it is no wonder that you might want to see how you can get in on having FiOS internet. Fortunately, it is not too hard to find out if you have FiOS available for your home.

As a basic rule of thumb, Verizon has FiOS available in the Northeast and into the Mid-Atlantic. Specifically, it is offered in these 10 states/districts: Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia.

However, coverage may not fully extend over each state and is mostly isolated to metropolitan areas. But never fear, Verizon offers an availability checking tool to see if your address is eligible to get FiOS services. Here's the step-by-step of how to use it.

1. Visit https://www.verizon.com/home/fiosavailability/. Here you are shown a list of key metropolitan areas that have Verizon FiOS available. This is not an exhaustive list, but includes metropolitan areas such as Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.

2. Click the 'Check Availability' button. This brings you to a new page prompting you to enter your zip code.

3. If your zip code has FiOS available, you will be prompted to enter your home address to narrow down the search. If your zip code does not have FiOS offered, you will be told that "These services are not available in your area."

4. After entering your zip code and home address. You will be prompted to optionally enter your email address and phone number to see if you offer for any bundled deals from Verizon.

5. Click 'Check Availability.'

6. If you do not currently have Verizon services, you will be redirected to a sales page to set up new services. If you already have different Verizon internet services, you will be prompted to update your account.
