Even though Shaw services are generally smooth, it is possible to have an outage. A service outage is a period where services are unavailable in a certain region.

Checking for Service Outage in Your Area

There are plenty of reasons why there may be a service outage in your area. The most common one is scheduled maintenance in your region. Regular maintenance services are conducted to improve the quality of service to customers. Other common reasons for service outages include; poor network connection, power outages, and faulty equipment.

It is possible to stay up-to-date with the outages in your area. If you subscribe to outage notifications, you will receive updates whenever there is an outage in your area.

Another option is to use the Service Updates page. Visit it and click on your region.

When there is an outage, there is nothing you can do. You have to just wait it out. It is impossible to predict the length of a service outage. Even though Shaw Communication tries to keep outage duration to a minimum, some of them may take a long time.

Planned Service Outages

If there is a planned service outage, you can easily know about it. Most planned outages are done overnight so they may not have a significant impact. You will receive a notification about it on the Service updates page.

Shaw Communications may plan an outage for maintenance purposes. Service will be restored as soon as the maintenance is complete.

Estimating the Restoration Time

Service outages can be a huge inconvenience especially if they last too long. Fortunately, it is possible to estimate the restoration time and plan accordingly.

Severe issues will take longer to resolve than minor ones. If your outage is caused by power outages, it will be restored as soon as power is restored. It is impossible to predict the exact period of the outage but you can make an estimation.

If you are no longer able to watch a channel, it may be due to changes made by the network. Failure to show a specific channel does not necessarily mean that there is an outage. The network may have been discontinued or rebranded. All change will be communicated on the Service Tips and Announcements page.

Subscribing to Outage Notifications

You can only get notifications if you are signed in to Shaw Support. With your region selected, you will see a green banner on the page. Click on the option 'Subscribe to Updates' and you will be notified every time there is an outage. A 'Success! Subscription added' message will be shown at the top of your screen.

You can manage your subscription based on your preference.

1. Select your profile image and click on the option 'My Settings'

2. Click on 'Subscriptions and notifications'

3. Click on 'My Subscriptions' to manage the subscription

4. If you want to manage your notifications, click on 'Notification Settings'

If you need support from Shaw Communications, you should contact their customer support agents. The best way to contact Shaw is on the phone. You will be connected with a representative to help you find the relevant help.

Live chat is a good alternative to phone support. It gives you the chance to speak with a customer care agent as well. Explain your problem and you will get the relevant help.
