You have an upcoming American Airlines flight. However, you need to make a change to your booking.

You are an American Airlines customer because the firm provides good deals and good in-flight services. However, your circumstances have changed, and you need to make alterations to your trip. Therefore, you need to make a change to your flight, such as the time or date of your departure.

Fortunately, in most cases, American Airlines customers can change the details of their flights. Although, this is not possible in all cases, and may incur a flight change fee.

To find out how you can change your American Airlines flight, read this article.

What Flights are Valid for Flight Changes:

It isn't possible to make flight changes for all American Airlines flights. In some circumstances, you will be unable to make your desired changes.

You can change your flight if:

  • You booked directly through American Airlines either online or via a representative
  • Your travel was booked by a travel agent
  • Your departure destination is within the US
  • Your trip is not an AAdvantage award
  • Your flight is not part of a group booking
  • You did not use a promotional code to book your flight
  • There is more than 3 hours before the next scheduled flight

You can also make changes to flights on the same day as your planned travel. However, if you want to make a same-day flight change, your new flight must originate from the same airport as your initial booking and must have the same number of stops.

Same-day flight change fees begin at $75.

Changing a Flight Online:

Navigate To The American Airlines Website:

If you want to change your flight online, you will need to visit the American Airlines website homepage.

Next, you need to enter your trip details to the booking tool on the homepage. To do so, click on the "Your Trips/Check-In" tab on the booking tool. Then, enter the lead passenger's first name, last name, and your confirmation code. Once you have entered this information, click on the blue "Find Your Trip" button at the bottom of the window.

Change Your Trip:

Once you have found the flight you would like to make a change to, search for the "Change Trip" option. If your flight is not valid for changes, this option will not be visible.

You can now make the appropriate changes to your flight.

Making a Change to Your Flight On The Phone:

American Airlines recommend that you make changes to your flight online, if possible. However, if you would prefer to talk to a customer representative, this service is available.

To make a flight change over the phone, you will first need to find the customer service telephone number. This can be found on the GetHuman website or the American Airlines website contact page.

If This Doesn't Work:

If after reading this guide, you are still unsure of the best way to make a change to your American Airlines flight, you need to contact a customer representative.

To get in contact with American Airlines, visit the GetHuman website to find up to date contact information.
