Consider using our free service that calls and talks to customer service for you, then sends you a report. Or use our free service that waits on hold and tells you when a human rep is on the line. But if those options don't appeal to you, our team has also documented the phone menu for United Airlines below.

We can get a live person on the line for you

That same, free GetHuman Phone can call and navigate the menus and wait on hold for you, but you can opt to do all the talking. We notify you when a rep is on the line and ready to talk, so no need to worry about changing menu options and weaving your way through the maze.
Of course, we completely understand if you prefer to do all the dialing, waiting, and talking yourself. All of these free tools are optional.
GetHuman researchers routinely call this United Airlines phone number to document the phone system.
Here is how our research team describes the way the United Airlines phone system greets you: How can I help you? Please say in a few words how we can help you today.
Here is our latest tip for weaving through the phone menu to get to a real person the fastest: When the voice starts talking, press "0", then press "0" again when he continues talking. Then say, "Yes," if your reservation is within the United States or "No," if it is international.
Below are some clips we've found from United Airlines's phone menus and tips that help give an idea of what you will encounter when you call. We've highlighted why they are important as well:

Heard when the phone system first answers

"Thanks for calling United Airlines. We're receiving significantly more calls than normal, and hold times may be longer than usual. If you're not traveling within seventy two hours, we ask that you contact us closer to your trip to allow us to prioritize, though, with more immediate travel plans. You can also change your plans online or on the United mobile app. If you booked your travel through a travel agency, please reach out to them for assistance. We appreciate your patience."

What are the hours and when should I call?

United Airlines operates the call center for this 800-864-8331 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Thursday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 6,212 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).

Automatically call when they open

When you use our free AI-powered phone to call and talk, wait on hold, or navigate for you, it will automatically wait until the United Airlines call center opens before trying to call. It will ask your permission before it places the call, so you can also further delay that scheduled call until you are ready. But that means you can "set it and forget it" ahead of time.
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this United Airlines phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like United Airlines staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy time to call

The least busy day to call United Airlines is Sunday. The most busy day to call is Monday, which averages 23% more phone calls by comparison. Again, this is based on a sample of 6,212 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

The shortest wait on hold

We measured the shortest hold times to be on Thursday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Saturday, which is 1481% longer than the minimum. As you can see, there is more fluctuation in hold time over the course of the week than there is in call volume.
But if you use our free call and talk for me or wait on hold for me service, you don't really need to worry about average wait times.

The best time to call United Airlines

In summation, the best day to call United Airlines is Thursday. It isn't the least busy day, but the fact that hold times are shortest combined with it being on the busy side tells us that United Airlines staffs up on Thursday to handle the higher call volume, and that makes it the best time to call.

Calling this United Airlines Customer Number

Nov 28, 2023

This United Airlines helpline is set up to handle a wide range of customer inquiries. When I called, I was greeted by a voice prompt asking me to state the reason for my call. Although there is no automated menu, the system’s voice prompt offers a number of potential issues it can assist customers with, including help checking into a flight, assistance with booking a flight, and changing a reservation.

I wanted to check the status of a flight going from Dallas to Los Angeles. The system handled my request using verbal commands, which can be a bit tedious when you have to go through multiple options.

For instance, when I was inquiring about the status of the flight I was interested in, I had to say the names of both cities multiple times and specify which airport in each city I needed information about. Each time, the system prompts you to say “yes” if it has heard you correctly. But if you say “yes” too quickly (or not quickly enough), it can easily misunderstand your response and send you back to the beginning of the process.

After a couple of tries, I got the system to understand that I wanted to check on a flight from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport. Unfortunately, the information it provided was incorrect. I was informed that there were no flights on the day of my call on United Airlines that originated in Dallas and landed in Los Angeles (in actuality, there were 10+ flights that fit this criteria).

I was confused enough by the information provided by the automated system that I chose to wait on the line to talk to a customer service representative. Using the voice command “agent,” I was connected with a live representative after a relatively short wait time.

The United Airlines rep I spoke with was friendly and helpful. He gave me the details about that day’s flights from Dallas to Los Angeles. I did ask why the automated system had been unable to provide me with that information, but he wasn’t sure of the answer to the question.

I wasn't happy with my experience trying to use the voice system to get information. It took multiple tries to get the system to understand me, and it seemed to take longer than it typically takes to work through an automated menu. It didn’t help that the system couldn't provide me with the information I was after.

That said, once I was connected to an agent, the experience was pleasant. I wouldn’t hesitate to call this number again for customer assistance, but I would immediately opt to speak with an agent rather than trying to navigate the voice system. My experience might also have been smoother if I'd been more prepared to provide additional information, such as a flight number.
