What are the hours and when should I call?

Southwest Airlines operates the call center for this 800-445-5764 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Wednesday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 27,068 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Southwest Airlines phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Southwest Airlines staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy time to call

The least busy day to call Southwest Airlines is Wednesday. The most busy day to call is Thursday. Again, this is based on a sample of 27,068 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

The shortest wait on hold

We measured the shortest hold times to be on Thursday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Friday.

The best time to call

In summation, the best day to call Southwest Airlines is Wednesday. This is not the day with the shortest wait on hold in the phone system, but we still recommend it for its ideal combination of low call volume and short hold times. Plus we believe that Southwest Airlines staffs the call center well on Wednesday.
Once again, please put this information in perspective because this phone number has no phone menu or long waits. It generally gets picked up right away if calling during their opening hours. If there is any way, it will typically be very short.

Calling this Southwest Airlines Customer Number

Apr 15, 2024

Calling this number proved to be completely ineffective, as I wasn't able to get connected with a customer service representative. When I called, everything seemed to be completely normal, as I was told that I had called a Southwest number about my Rapid Rewards account and put through to the automated menu.

Upon getting through to the automated system, I was told that I could enter in the information for my Rapid Rewards account to serve me faster, or I could use my phone number if I didn't have the Rapid Rewards information available. I chose to use my phone number, and I was then placed on hold and told that my wait time was eight minutes. At this point, I was given the option to take a call back when it was my turn, or I could choose to wait for a representative.

I opted to wait, and at the end of eight minutes, I got what seemed like it would be someone answering my call. However, there was nobody on the other end of the line. I waited for someone to say that I was speaking with Southwest, or that I had reached Rapid Rewards, or to ask if they could help me. However, nobody said anything at all.

After a minute, I said hello myself to see if anyone would respond. Nobody ever did. After trying this three times with no success, the system itself hung up the phone. Nobody from Southwest ever connected with me; I was simply hung up on.

Based on this outcome, I would not want to use this phone number for Rapid Rewards service. There's no guarantee you'll ever get to speak with someone, even if you go through the waiting process. The wait time isn't too bad, but considering nobody answered, it was completely unacceptable.
