If you finance your auto loan through Wachovia Dealer Services, which has been named Wells Fargo Dealer Services since the takeover, and if you have finally finished paying off your vehicle, then you need a lien release letter. A lien release letter states that you have paid the vehicle off entirely and that the lien Wells Fargo Dealer Services had on it is no longer in force. It is pretty easy to get that letter.

You actually probably won't have to do anything at all to get your lien release letter because Wells Fargo Dealer Services should automatically send one to you within 60 days of your final payment. In many cases, it won't take as long as 60 days, but if you haven't received it in 60 days, you will need to get another copy sent.If you live in AL, AK, AR, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, IN, ME, MS, NH, NJ, NM, ND, OR, RI, TN, UT, VT, WV, or WY then Wells Fargo Dealer Services will mail you your title within 4 weeks of the date they notify your state's department of motor vehicles that your lien is ended.If you live in AZ, CA, CO, GA, IA, ID, LA, MA, NC, NE, NV, PA, SC, SD, TX, VA, WA, or WI then your state's motor vehicle department will be the one to mail you your title, after they have received notice of the end of your lien.If you live in KS, KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NY, or OK, then the owner of the vehicle will have the title, and you need to get it from them after you have received the lien release letter.If you live in FL or OH, contact the titling agency for your title.
