To enroll in the LifeLine program, you have to be eligible. Eligibility means that you are not earning an income and are under the government benefit program.

Cancelling SafeLink Plan

To cancel your SafeLink service, you will have to contact SafeLink customer service to do it for you. There are several customer service numbers available including two customer service numbers, an international customer service number and a troubleshooting number.

However, the process of cancelling your SafeLink plan is the same and proceeds as follows:

  1. Call one of SafeLink's customer service numbers and follow the automated voice prompts until you hear the option to talk to a customer service representative.
  2. Click the number as suggested by the voice prompts.
  3. Wait patiently until you are connected to a customer service agent.
  4. Tell the customer service rep that you want to cancel your SafeLink service.
  5. If you have a remaining balance on your SafeLink line tell the agent to create a queue for you in which they will save the remaining balance for you. Be ready with a pen and paper so that you can write down the queue number when asked to do so. You should only do this if you still want to return to SafeLink using a different plan.
  6. The agent will deactivate your SIM card which if you are using to make the call will drop immediately. It is advisable to use another number to make the call so you can monitor the deactivation process.
  7. If you still want to return to SafeLink, a new SIM card will be sent by mail and arrive at your residence in several days.
  8. Put the new SIM card into your phone and switch it on.
  9. Call the customer service you called earlier with the queue number ready. Follow the process to talk to a representative and provide the number when prompted to gain your remaining balance.
