What Is Marriott's Coronavirus Change or Cancellation Policy?

Founded in 1957, Marriott Hotels and Resorts has expanded its full-service properties into more than 550 locations, with more properties in development at the time of the writing. Suffice it to say that travelers will have many opportunities to stay at a Marriott, but what about its cancellation and coronavirus policies? Although the world has recovered from the pandemic, understanding the hotel's policies during such scenarios aids in considering it as an option.

Coronavirus Guidelines

The global epidemic changed the way that many businesses operated when it came to housekeeping and sanitation services. Marriott's Cleanliness Council has taken a more transparent approach to its sanitation efforts with heavy reliance on the CDC and WHO's recommendations in addition to local health agencies. The council maintains high standards in surface and public spaces by using hospital-grade disinfectants.

There's no mention of the coronavirus in the cancellation policies, and face coverings are optional in the hotel's U.S. and Canadian properties unless authorities decide differently. If you're visiting a Marriott in the Caribbean or Latin America, face coverings are required indoors for guests and associates.

Cancellation Policies

Marriott has many properties with no fixed rules in place, and the cancellation policies depend on property and reservation type. You can locate these policies on your reservation page, your confirmation email if you booked, and the summary of charges in your account dashboard. Call your travel agent for the cancellation policy if you used a third-party agency.

The hotel does encourage you to purchase travel insurance which can reimburse you for non-refundable fees if your trip is canceled or altered due to illness or other covered events.
