Introduction

A security freeze is a credit freeze on your Experian account, protecting you against fraud and theft. While a temporary freeze doesn't affect your credit score, lenders may not extend pre-qualified offers unless you lift the security freeze. The good thing is that you can easily lift the credit freeze on your account. If you plan to apply for a new credit, lifting your credit freeze is recommended. Read this article for the step-by-step guide on how to remove the freeze on your Experian account.

Log In To Your Account

Go to the Freeze Center and sign in to your account. You can also use the app if you have it downloaded on your mobile phone.

Click Unfrozen

Just tap Unfrozen to permanently lift the freeze to leave your credit report open until you freeze it again. You also have the option to thaw your account if you want creditors to check them.

Contact Experian

Those who can't go online can lift the freeze by calling Experian directly or via mail. If you'd like to do it by mail, send your request to the attached address.

Don't forget to include your full name, complete addresses for the past two years, date of birth, a government-issued ID, social security number and a copy of a utility bill. A bank statement will also suffice, if you don't have a copy of your utility bill.

Conclusion

Just because your credit report is frozen doesn't mean you can't access your own credit report. There are also a few exceptions: debt collectors, landlords and government agencies may still access your frozen credit report. You can permanently remove the freeze, or thaw it for a week or a month. Granting a creditor one-time access to your credit report is also possible. All you have to do is sign in to your account to see all your options. Do you still have questions or concerns about an Experian security freeze? Contact Customer Support today.
