EDF supplies electricity and gas to more than 5 million customers in the UK. The company provides a range of ways for customers to pay their bills, including via meters, through an online payment portal, via the Post Office and using a Direct Debit. This guide will show you how to set up a Direct Debit. Read on to find out more.

The Basics of EDF Direct Debit

If you want to set up a Direct Debit on your account, you need the sort code and account number of your bank account and the chosen due date you'd like the Direct Debit to be withdrawn. You can set up a Direct Debit online through your EDF My Account dashboard, or you can chat with a EDF representative who can help.

To enroll online, visit the EDF website and sign into your account and navigate to the Direct Debit page on MyAccount. If you have any questions, call EDF Customer Service agents here.

Things to Keep in Mind

When you set up a Direct Debit on your account, EDF generates an updated bill that needs to be paid in full as soon as possible. The reason for this is so your Direct Debit starts out at a zero balance and you can choose between paying it at the time you set up Direct Debit or letting EDF withdraw the payment 14 days from the date your bill was generated.

You also have options regarding your Direct Debit about how often and the amount to be paid. You can sign up for Direct Debit quarterly which bills you quarterly statements four times a year and are paid 14 days after the bill is created.

You can also set up a budget Direct Debit on your account. This averages out your usage based on previous usage, and it's a good way to keep track of your spending. Keep in mind that budget amounts are reviewed by EDF twice a year and can change based on your energy consumption. Feel free to call or chat with EDF for more details and how you can take advantage of Direct Debit.
