As of Oct. 21, 2024, Navient transferred the servicing of its student loans to MOHELA. As such, you'll now manage your payments, tax documents, account history and auto pay settings through the MOHELA platform. Fortunately, if you were already enrolled in auto pay with Navient, that enrollment should transfer automatically. However, if you're setting it up for the first time to ensure you never miss a due date (or to secure the 0.25% interest rate reduction) you'll need to do it through the new portal. Because of the servicing transfer, you won't log in at the Navient website to manage your loans anymore. Instead, visit https://servicing.mohela.com. Be sure to use this specific URL, as it's the dedicated portal for accounts transferred from Navient. If you’re unsure about how to proceed, speak to someone directly at MOHELA.
Don't worry about creating a new login. You can access this portal using the same user ID, password and security questions you previously used with Navient. Once you successfully log in to your dashboard, look for the "Payments" option in the main navigation menu. The interface may look different from what you were used to on the Navient site, but the functionality remains the same. Click on the link labeled "Auto Pay" to begin the enrollment process. Avoid clicking "Make a Payment," as that feature is typically reserved for one-time, manual transactions instead of recurring setups.
To fund your automatic payments, link a valid checking or savings account. You'll need to enter your bank’s nine-digit routing number and your account number. You can find these numbers on the bottom of a paper check, within your bank’s mobile app, on your monthly bank statement or through your bank's online portal.
The system will ask you to select which loans you wish to enroll. You can also specify how much you want to pay each month. The default setting is usually the minimum monthly amount due, but you can choose to pay more to reduce your principal balance, pay off interest faster or shorten your repayment term.
Before the setup is complete, review the terms and conditions, which outline how the servicer handles insufficient funds, processing dates, holiday delays and cancellation procedures. After you read and agree to these terms, click the submit button to finalize your request.
Don't assume your next payment will be deducted automatically right away. Watch your email for a confirmation letter that specifies the start date. Until you see a notification on your billing statement confirming that a payment is scheduled for autopay, continue making manual payments to avoid past-due status.
