How Do I Create a New Folder in My Yahoo Email?

Open your Yahoo Mail page to create a new folder in your Yahoo email. Click on the gear symbol at the top right of your email. Select Manage Folders. The steps below show you how to create new folders in Yahoo Mail.

1. Open Your Yahoo Mail Page

You'll have to open your Yahoo Mail account. To do this:

  • Click on the Yahoo logo in the top left corner of your browser window and click on Mail.
  • You'll find an empty inbox that shows no emails. This is because Yahoo Mail stores your messages in folders by default.

2. Click on the Gear Symbol

To create a new folder, click on the gear symbol at the top right of your email. You should then see a drop-down menu. Here are the things you should do:

  • Click the More Options tab
  • Click Create New Folder

3. Select Manage Folders

Choose the Manage Folders in the box that pops up. Here is how to create a new folder in Yahoo Mail:

  • Click the gear icon on the top-right corner of your Yahoo Mail toolbar and select Manage Folders from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Edit next to Folders in the left sidebar to open up all existing folders you have created.

4. Choose a Place To Put Your Folder

Determine where to put your folder. You can create a new folder in any of the following locations:

  • Inbox
  • Drafts
  • Sent Mail (sent messages)

5. Type in a Name for Your Folder

You can choose any name you want, but it's best to give the folder a title that is easy to remember and understand. For example, if creating a folder for an event, name it after the event. If you create a client-specific folder, use the client's name.

6. Click Create and Complete

Once you have created a new folder, you can begin moving emails into it. To do this, click on the email and select Move from the drop-down menu that appears. A window will appear with some options on how to move the email:

  • Move to Folder. Select from your existing folders to move the email into one of them.
  • Create New Folder. Click this option to create an additional folder within your inbox or existing folders in Yahoo Mail. This is useful if you want to organize similar types of emails together without necessarily having them go into one specific folder (i.e., work emails versus personal emails).
