GoFundMe is an online crowdfunding platform where people raise money for medical needs, education, charities, and other important causes. Starting a fundraising project on GoFundMe is easy: enter your location (or where the funds will go), pick a category, and add a beneficiary. You’ll be asked to enter the amount you hope to fundraise, and you can adjust your goal at any time. Even if you don’t reach your target amount, you’ll still receive whatever is raised — and your fundraiser stays active. If you want to update your goal amount, here’s how to do it.
Enter the email address associated with your GoFundMe account and click Continue. You can also log in with Apple or with Google.
Once logged in, select the fundraiser you want to modify.
Aside from the goal amount, you can also edit your fundraiser’s title, story, main image, location, and category. It’s best to include a photo or video, but make sure you have the rights to share them online. Videos are hosted on YouTube, so set them to Public. When updating your story, keep it detailed so people understand what you’re raising money for and how the funds will be used.
You can also change the fundraiser URL, but make sure to update any links you’ve already shared on social media. Otherwise, people who want to donate may end up on an error page.
Enter your new goal amount. Keep in mind that you can still transfer the funds even if you haven’t reached your goal. However, transaction fees will apply when you withdraw the money to your account. These may include ACH or debit-card charges, which help ensure your funds are transferred securely. Fees vary by country, but you can visit the Pricing page to see the exact transfer fees for your location.
When finalizing a goal amount, we encourage you to check the goal suggestion on the page or what similar fundraisers set. You can also benefit from the automated goal setting from GoFundMe.
If you’re just starting a fundraising campaign, we suggest adding co-organizers to help boost your results. Campaigns with co-organizers can raise three times more funds. They can help spread the word and post updates, but they won’t be able to transfer the funds; only you can do that.
Also, never share your banking details online or on social media. GoFundMe never offers paid promotions, so avoid engaging with anyone who asks for money to “boost” or promote your fundraiser.
Have you updated your goal amount? Besides sharing your fundraiser on social media, you can also use a custom link that can be sent via text. You can even add your link to printouts or posters. Also, reach out to your inner circle, or your old high school alumni group, and ask them to help spread the word. GoFundMe is available in only 20 countries, so if you live somewhere not supported, you can ask a friend from an eligible country to organize the fundraiser on your behalf. GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like GoFundMe in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Change My Gofundme Goal Amount? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible.
