We've all experienced it. We sit down to watch a movie we've been looking forward to all week and were met with pixelized picture quality or a frozen screen. Even of the move plays there may be frequent starts and stops or lagging. This is what most of us would refer to as buffering. BUffering can be caused by many different issues. However, as a DISH Network customer, you may be wondering what you can do to diminish the occurrence of buffering as well as what steps you can take to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Things You Should Check When You Experience Buffering...

One of the first things you can do when you start to notice issues with DISH Network streaming is to check your data usage to ensure that you haven't exceeded your monthly allotment. If so, you may need to buy more data. It's also a good idea to consider the weather. If it's storming outside, this may affect your streaming resulting in issues with buffering. You can also do a speed test to ensure that speed isn't an issue or the cause of buffering.

Steps You Can Take to Fix Buffering Issues

Even when you've taken preventive measures to reduce or eliminate buffering, you may still experience it. There are also actions you can take to deal with buffering when it happens. One of the first things you can do is power cycle your modem. Unplug your modem for ten seconds. Plug it back in and wait for the received light to appear. If the modem lights don't come back in you'll need to address this as a possible power issue. This process may take up to five minutes. You can also do the same thing with your router and then restart your device. It may also help to delete any temporary internet files.

Other Helpful Steps...

You can also address buffering issues by turning your device off then turn it back on. Turn off any other applications that may be running in the background. Disconnect any other devices from the network as well. You can also try reducing the video quality in your settings as well. You can also pause the video stream or speed up your connection. You may also need to update your graphic card and drivers.

Increase Speed...

There are various factors that can affect the speed of your connection. Some of these factors are external. Check for damage to your satellite cables and dish and clean any dirt from your satellite dish. You should also make sure your dish is in the right position as well. It should be facing south. Reset your modem and router. You may also want to invest in your own router. These and the above-mentioned steps are actions you can take to decrease buffering while you stream.
