How do I read my electric meter?
Reading an electric meter is relatively straightforward once you understand the basics. Electric meters can be digital or analog. For an analog meter, you will see a series of dials, typically four or five. You read the dials from left to right. Each dial represents a different digit in the meter reading, and you should take the number the hand points to. If the hand is between two numbers, you record the lower number. If the pointer is directly on a number, check the dial to the right. If that dial points to a lower number, record the higher number; if it points to the same or a higher number, record the lower one.
Digital meters typically display the reading directly on a screen. In this case, you simply note the number that appears. To ensure accuracy, it is a good practice to regularly monitor your electric meter. If you would like more specific information or assistance, it is advisable to check the Pepco website for guidance.
