Google Voice, a VoIP phone service for consumers in the US and businesses in select countries, allows users to call and send text messages. Some of its key features include voicemail transcription, call forwarding, and spam blocking. Businesses that opt for a higher plan also have access to Google Voice Analytics to improve customer experience and drive business growth. You need an email address to sign up for Google Voice, and this email address cannot be changed. However, you can transfer your Google Voice number to another email account. How to do it? Check out the detailed steps below.
Look for the three horizontal lines and click on the icon.
Check your Google Voice number, then hit Transfer. Follow the instructions to successfully transfer the other Google Voice number to another account.
Note before you make the transfer:
Make sure to accept the Google Voice Terms of Service. To do this, sign in to the new email address you want to use for Google Voice and sign up for the service. You'll see an option there to accept Google Voice Terms of Service. It's recommended to accept the terms first before choosing a number. Otherwise, the Transfer option will be inactive.
Keep in mind that you cannot transfer a Google Voice number to an email address that already has a number. Also, you can only transfer the number. Account data, text messages, call history, and call forwarding information can't be transferred. If you wish to save your account data, feel free to download it before transferring your Google Voice number. Also, before you transfer, make sure to set up a forwarding phone.
You also can't transfer a Google Voice number to an account managed by a school or your work. Additionally, if you have a different Google Workspace domain, the Google Voice number can't be transferred to your account.
There may also be a fee when you transfer a Google Voice phone to another account. Never cancel your phone plan with the previous account unless the transfer has been completed.
After transferring the phone number, the next step is to set up a linked number using the new Google Voice account. To do this, simply go to your Settings, then to your new linked number, and wait for the code.
You can check the porting progress by opening Google Voice and clicking Settings in the top right corner of the page. Go to the Account section and tap Track Your Progress. If you don't see this option, you may need to resubmit the transfer request. You'll know verification is successful when the estimated completion time appears. If your information isn't verified, just follow the on-screen instructions to update your account information.
