If you recently lost your job or your employer reduced your working hours, apply for unemployment benefits with the California Employment Development Department (EDD). You may be eligible if you earned wages in the past 18 months and lost your job through no fault of your own. Applicants may also qualify to receive unemployment benefits if they have a Social Security number, are authorized to work in the United States, are either totally or partially employed, and are physically able to work. If you applied online, the easiest way to check the status of your unemployment benefit application is by logging in to your account. Sign in with your email address and password, or tap Forgot Password if you forgot your login credentials.
You can view all payments for your claim in the Payment Activity section.
Go to the payment activity to see the status of all payments made on your unemployment benefit claim.
You can see the most recent payment to your claim in this section. If it says Pending, the EDD may still need to determine your eligibility or verify your identity. Don't worry, the EDD staff will reach out if they need additional documents from you.
If there are eligibility problems on your unemployment benefit claim, the EDD may ask you to complete an Eligibility Questionnaire either via email or by mail or schedule a phone interview with you.
When the status says "Paid", it means the payment has been issued. Check your payment method. If it says "Excessive Earnings," it means your earnings were too high for the week, and you won't qualify for a payment. If you see "Appeal," it means the EDD filed an appeal of your claim. It means 'pending,' but you still need to certify to receive the payment benefit. And if you are indeed eligible for the unemployment benefit from the EDD, you will still receive the unpaid monetary benefits for that week.
You can also see the status of your claim by calling the EDD directly. Use the 1-800 number and select Menu Option 1 to see the status of your recent payment. Updates are posted daily at 6 a.m. PST. If your claim was also submitted by phone, the payment will be sent to your EDD Debit card within 24 hours. For check payments, wait up to 10 days.
