Introduction

The AT&T account owner is the individual listed during account setup and one who appears on the bill. The primary account user, who may also be the account owner, can add/remove users, request number transfer PINs, and transfer primary access. Authorized users, specifically primary and secondary users, can view/pay bills and update primary contact info. However, before you can change the primary contact, you need to disable Wireless Account Lock first. Continue reading, and we'll show you how to disable Wireless Account Lock and how to update the primary contact info.

Download the AT&T App and Sign In

To edit contact details, ensure the Wireless Account Lock is turned off. When enabled, the primary account info will be grayed out, restricting changes. This lock affects all devices connected to your account, including smartphones, laptops, hotspots, tablets, and wearables. To disable it, download the app, sign in, and follow the prompts.

Tap Services

You can find this on the second tab at the bottom of the app.

Select Mobile Security

To proceed, scroll to Wireless Account Lock and tap Continue. Select the account you want to unlock, then swipe to apply the change. Once the account lock is disabled, you can update the primary account information.

Both the primary and secondary users can also turn on/turn off wireless account lock. For prepaid internet accounts, just choose the number you want to unlock and go to your Profile and select Account Info & Preferences. You should be able to see Wireless Account Lock there. For business accounts, you can turn off Account Lock via the website. Just sign in and go to Account Lock Settings and turn off Account Lock.

Once the wireless account lock is turned off, you can now change the primary contact for your AT&T account. To do this, follow the next step below.

Sign In Back Into Your Account

You can use AT&T's official website to update the primary contact for your account. Do this by going to your AT&T Profile, but you need to log in to your account first.

Go to Your Profile

Tap on your Profile and go to My Linked Accounts.

Edit the Phone Number

Once you are on the linked account, choose Edit to update your primary contact info and follow the prompts to successfully change it.

You may receive a verification code if you have a wireless internet service. Also, note that all of your AT&T accounts must have the same primary contacts, as well as email and physical addresses.

Conclusion

Do you have multiple AT&T internet accounts, including Fixed Wireless Internet? You can use a single user ID to manage the personal information on all of your accounts. To add another account, sign in and go to Account Overview. Look for Link Account and add another internet account to your AT&T profile. Note that you can also remove this account. And as mentioned, you need to have the same primary contact for all of your AT&T accounts. Do you still have questions about updating your primary contact? Get in touch with Customer Support today.
